A tripartite agreement was signed on Saturday, March 2nd, 2024, in New Delhi among the Central government, the State government of Tripura, and the Indigenous Progressive Regional Alliance, commonly referred to as Tipra Motha, along with other involved parties. Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha, Tipra Motha leader Pradyot Debbarma, and other top officials were present at the meeting.
Pradyot Debbarma and others from TIPRA signed the agreement. Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha, state officials, and senior Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) officials were there when they signed it.
Amit Shah said that while we can’t change what happened in the past, we can learn from it and adjust our path to create a better future. He believes that today’s agreement will help Tripura become a developed and peaceful state where people live together harmoniously. Shah praised Tripura’s Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha, BJP leaders, Pradyot Kishore from ‘Motha’, opposition leader Animesh Debbarma, and other leaders for their positive and constructive approach in reaching this agreement. He mentioned that through agreements like this, the entire northeast region, which was once troubled, has now become peaceful. Shah highlighted previous agreements with various groups like the Bodos, Karibs of Assam, UNLF in Manipur, and resolving border disputes between Assam, Meghalaya, and Mizoram. He sees today as a significant day and looks forward to progress, peace, and development in the region.
The agreement states that all problems faced by the indigenous people of Tripura regarding their history, land, political rights, economic development, identity, culture, and language will be solved peacefully. Additionally, a team will be formed to figure out and put into action the agreed-upon solutions for these issues within a set timeframe. This is to make sure that a fair resolution is reached for everyone involved.
Amit Shah praised Pradyot Kiskore and the royal family, especially acknowledging Pradyotji’s contribution. He mentioned how Pradyotji’s grandfather, Maharaja Bir Bikram Kishore Manikyjit, had helped people during a riot in East Pakistan following Mahatma Gandhi’s call. Although some issues arose later, Shah emphasized the importance of settling them together. He sincerely appreciated Pradyotji’s role and positive attitude after signing the agreement today.
